Biography

Michael Quinn is a Senior Incident Responder at Cybereason, based in New Jersey. Michael has over 15 years of experience in computer intrusion and cyber crime cases, with expertise in digital forensics and incident response investigations.

In his role at Cybereason, Michael leads digital forensics and incident response teams in North America, where he handles cyber incidents of all complexities, including business email compromise, ransomware, insider threats, and other active intrusions. He manages a team responsible for evaluating an organization’s incident response preparedness and developing plans and procedures to test their response operations to ultimately elevate their cybersecurity resilience. His teams work in close alignment with corporate counsel, outside breach counsel, and in accordance with cyber insurance policies. Michael contributes to Cybereason’s growth and development with strategic planning, thought leadership, speaking engagements, and process improvements, and supports recruitment, mentorship, and development of cybersecurity talent in North America.

Prior to joining Cybereason Michael was a Managing Director at Kroll, a financial and risk advisory firm, as part of the Cyber and Data Resilience team where he focused on digital forensics and incident response. During his time at Kroll, Michael led hundreds of incident response engagements, with a focus on tabletop exercises and incident response planning in close coordination with law firms and insurance carriers and brokers.

Before this, Michael served as Supervisory Special Agent in the Cyber Division of the FBI from 2012 to 2014, where he managed a variety of state-sponsored and criminal intrusion matters for several FBI field offices and provided support for and coordinated with national security and criminal cases for six cyber squads throughout the FBI. From 2007 to 2012, he served as Computer Forensic Examiner at the New Jersey Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory. In this role, he examined physical evidence in an ASCLD/LAB accredited laboratory under a documented quality assurance program, conducted forensic examinations on computer and cellular telephone evidence, performed search and seizure operations, and contributed to research and development initiatives. Prior to this, Michael served as a Criminal Investigator in the FBI’s Newark Division from 2006 to 2007, where he investigated computer intrusion and internet fraud cases, and as a Background Investigator from 2005 to 2006, conducting investigations into potential FBI and federal government employees.

Prior to the FBI, Michael was a senior representative of knowledge management at Ameritrade Inc., where he maintained and ensured accuracy of the Ameritrade Intranet in accordance with company, National Association of Securities Dealers and Securities and Exchange Commission requirements, and managed a team of 12 licensed stock brokers and resolved escalated customer inquiries.

Michael Quinn holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Scranton and a Masters of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Nebraska.
