Employee Spotlight: On Values and Culture at Cybereason

When Hadar Harari signed on as a senior program manager at Cybereason’s Tel Aviv office, she heard a lot about the values of the fast-growing cybersecurity company. And what she heard soon proved to be true. Below, see why Hadar says “the Defender vibe is real; it’s in the DNA of the company.”

What’s your role at Cybereason, and who do you work with?

I’ve been at Cybereason for the last year and a half. I started as a senior program manager, and now I’m a program manager lead. I’m part of the Delivery Operations team.

Essentially, we’re doing R&D in order to scale this crazy fast, superefficient cybersecurity machine.

When I got here, Cybereason had around 12 squads, and today we have more than 60. And we’re still hiring all the time.

Amid all that growth, I’m building platforms that will support our cybersecurity processes and mentoring to make sure the triangle of people, processes, and tools are all aligned. And that means I work with all the departments—Engineering, Product, Security, Customer Success, basically everyone.

Why did you choose to work at Cybereason?

Actually, when I first heard about Cybereason, I didn’t intend to take a job here. I had already been contacted by a very structured, “safe” company that was really well-known in the industry. But I got a call and thought, “OK, I’ll just go in to practice my interview capabilities.”

Once I started to do a bit of research, though, I realized there is a lot of potential in this company, and the entire cyber industry. And then I came in for the interview. Sometimes, when you’re interviewing with HR, they’re very strict and formal. This wasn’t like that at all. It was a heart-to-heart conversation.

And when I talked with the woman who is now my manager about the job and what she was trying to achieve, I felt like we had the same mindset. I fell in love with the people and the culture.

What’s the management culture like at Cybereason?

At Cybereason, the concept of a manager isn’t telling someone exactly what to do. It’s more open. Managers are there to encourage out-of-the-box thinking and remove blockers.

Since I’ve been here, there hasn’t been a single time when I’ve gotten a negative response after coming to my manager to offer something or with a thought about how I needed to do something. Instead, we brainstorm. And I do the same thing with the people I manage. It’s always open. It’s very cool and free and outgoing.

Let’s talk about Cybereason's "Defender" culture and values: Daring, UbU, Never Give Up, Ever Evolving, Win as One...

When I first joined, I heard about the “Defender” concept so much I almost felt skeptical. But the Defender vibe is real; it’s in the DNA of the company. People here really believe in what we do.

With our values, I especially love the concept of diversity, or UbU (you be you). As a lesbian woman, an inclusive culture is extremely important to me. Cybereason is not just talking about diversity. We offer bias-training workshops. We have a UbU employee advisory board charged with developing policies to support community initiatives.  We volunteer with a variety of causes, such as LGBT+ groups, and we invest in all kinds of minority communities.

What excites you the most about the company’s future?

We’re building something new here from scratch. So that requires us to be innovative, creative, out-of-the-box thinkers, and we’re doing all this in a totally fun environment.

It’s exciting to see the company grow and develop so quickly, and to be making a huge impact with more and more customers. A few months ago, my team was just me and my manager, and now we have around ten people. If this is what can happen in a year and a half, I’m really curious to see what will happen in the months ahead—especially when we go public.
