“We’re excited about Andrew joining Cybereason and the opportunity in the U.S. public sector for Cybereason to make a profound impact on helping the nation's federal civilian, military, state and local government agencies stop material breaches before damage occurs. Andrew has a wealth of experience and while building out a US team, it will be reflective of a diverse and experienced group of executives needed to serve the American government,” said Eric Appel, Cybereason’s General Manager, North American Sales.

Prior to joining Cybereason, Borene was President and CEO of Cipherloc Corporation, a publicly traded developer of quantum-resistant encryption solutions. He was also a Senior Director of Symantec Corporation’s National Security Group, where he led a specialized business unit that delivered innovation and cybersecurity solutions to US federal agencies. He also served in senior leadership roles at IBM Corporation, where he led a highly successful investigative software business with worldwide customers.

Borene previously served as a Contractor Senior Advisor to the IARPA Director, within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He was an Associate Deputy General Counsel at the Pentagon and served in the Middle East as a U.S. Marine Officer. He studied peacebuilding in Northern Ireland as a U.S. State Department fellow. Borene holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and a B.A. in Economics from Macalester College. He also completed executive education in international development finance at Harvard University. He is a recipient of the FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Public Service and he is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

“My goal is to build a strong business for Cybereason within the U.S. public sector and I am planning to recruit a group of direct support executives, veterans and alumni of the elite military units and agencies that have defended our nation in the information age. I’ll also work to establish a network of the best channel and delivery partners for federal, state and local governments. Cybereason’s steady growth, unmatched technology and its constant rise as a global endpoint technology leader has me excited to help the public sector to be able to more quickly identify and mitigate the most advanced state-sponsored and criminal threats across all endpoints from workstations, servers, cloud and mobile,” said Borene.

In 2020, Cybereason has received several third-party validations for the Cybereason Defense Platform, including the two previously conducted MITRE ATT&CK evaluations. In the first eval, while defending against the techniques and tactics used by Chinese-affiliated cybercrime group APT3, Cybereason outperformed every company by demonstrating best-in-class automated threat detection, the most real-time alerts and correlation of malicious activity.

In the second eval, while defending against the techniques and tactics frequently used by Russian-affiliated cybercrime group APT29, Cybereason showcased how its market-leading visibility and actionable threat detection enables security analysts to stop attacks before material damage occurs.
