One of this year's most prominent cyber attacks was the Ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline Company in May. Sam Curry adds the benefit of hindsight as he revisits this thought leading webinar.
On May 8, the Colonial Pipeline Company announced that it had fallen victim to a ransomware attack a day earlier. The FBI confirmed on May 10 that the DarkSide ransomware gang was responsible for the attack.
DarkSide is a relatively new ransomware strain that Cybereason first detected in August 2020. DarkSide operators follows the RaaS (ransomware-as-a-service) model and engage in double extortion where they exfiltrate victim data prior to encryption with the threat to make it public in an effort to ensure victims pay the ransom demand.
